Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate maintenance and reliability activities for operating assets, with a primary focus on instrumentation.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize project, maintenance, and outage plans using planning and scheduling software.
  • Prioritize work to support timely execution, backlog reduction, equipment reliability, and cost control.
  • Develop comprehensive job plans and job packages with necessary technical information and labor requirements.
  • Coordinate work orders and maintenance schedules with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and technical personnel.
  • Develop weekly, monthly, quarterly, and long-range look-ahead schedules for maintenance, expense, reliability, and upgrades.
  • Coordinate manpower requirements and work dispatching with maintenance supervision.
  • Provide CMMS guidance and support related to maintenance planning processes.
  • Ensure work orders are properly documented and maintained in the system.
  • Identify material, equipment, and contractor requirements and coordinate with Supply Chain and vendors.

Job description

Petroplan is recruiting for an experienced Instrument Planning Technician to support maintenance, reliability, and work execution activities at an industrial operating facility. This position will focus heavily on instrumentation planning, with responsibility for developing work plans, coordinating maintenance activities, managing work orders, and supporting efficient execution of planned and corrective work.

The ideal candidate will have a strong hands-on instrumentation background, experience working in oil and gas, petrochemical, pipeline, or similar industrial environments, and substantial experience using SAP/CMMS systems for maintenance planning and scheduling.

This is a fully onsite position, five days per week, and requires an individual who can work effectively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, and other technical personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance and reliability activities for operating assets, with a primary focus on instrumentation.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize project, maintenance, and outage plans using applicable planning and scheduling software.
  • Prioritize work to support timely execution, backlog reduction, equipment reliability, and cost control.
  • Develop comprehensive job plans and job packages containing the necessary technical information, materials, labor requirements, procedures, and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate work orders and maintenance schedules with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and technical personnel.
  • Develop weekly, monthly, quarterly, and long-range look-ahead schedules for maintenance, expense, reliability, and upgrade activities.
  • Coordinate manpower requirements and work dispatching in collaboration with maintenance supervision.
  • Provide technical support and guidance related to CMMS functionality and maintenance planning processes.
  • Ensure work orders are properly documented, planned, and maintained within the maintenance management system.
  • Identify material, equipment, and contractor requirements and coordinate with Supply Chain and vendors as necessary.
  • Assist with the development and monitoring of maintenance KPIs and performance reports.
  • Track schedule compliance and maintenance/inspection activities, including identification and analysis of deviations, trends, and recurring issues.
  • Develop reports and graphical representations to communicate maintenance performance and scheduling trends.
  • Recommend updates to maintenance procedures and assist with procedure development and implementation.
  • Identify and support training opportunities that improve maintenance effectiveness and work execution.
  • Assist with maintenance and project budget development as needed.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, scheduling, reliability, and maintenance execution.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support operational and business requirements.
Experience
  • 5–7+ years of relevant maintenance experience, preferably within oil and gas, petrochemical, pipeline, terminal, or other process/industrial facilities.
  • Strong instrumentation experience is required; candidates with an electrical and instrumentation (E&I) background are welcome, but instrumentation must be a core area of expertise.
  • Demonstrated hands-on, field-based maintenance experience.
  • Significant experience using SAP/CMMS systems for maintenance planning and work management.
  • Experience with maintenance planning, scheduling, work execution, backlog management, and reliability processes.
  • Experience developing detailed job plans, work packages, estimates, and maintenance schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA or comparable enterprise maintenance management platforms.
  • Experience with Primavera P6, MS Project, or similar planning and scheduling software.
  • Experience with Prometheus or comparable maintenance/work management planning software.Experience supporting maintenance planning for instrumentation, controls, and related equipment.
  • Experience estimating and planning work involving scaffolding, painting, insulation, heavy equipment, rigging/lifting, welding, fabrication, and machining.
  • Experience in a pipeline or other regulated industrial facility is preferred.
  • Familiarity with applicable pipeline, process safety, maintenance, inspection, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with gas compression, measurement/metering, or similar process equipment is beneficial.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong working knowledge of SAP and CMMS-based maintenance processes.
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation systems, equipment, maintenance practices, and field execution.
  • Knowledge of maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution processes and best practices.
  • Ability to develop and maintain detailed work plans, job packages, schedules, and work orders.
  • Ability to analyze maintenance data, schedule compliance, backlog, and performance trends.
  • Understanding of material requirements, labor planning, contractor coordination, and maintenance cost control.
  • Ability to effectively interface with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain, and external vendors.
