Responsibilities

  • Ensure Maintenance Procedures include hazard assessments and controls.
  • Obtain the work permit.
  • Perform the task as per the job package.
  • Investigate new issues that arise and direct related work orders as needed.
  • Complete the work and return equipment to operations.
  • Assist in problem analysis and root cause evaluation.
  • Apply trade skills to maintenance tasks and assist apprentices.
  • Contribute to development of Maintenance Work Procedures.
  • Document history and assist in maintenance planning.
  • Follow standard work procedures and job plans.

About This Role

Dow is seeking an Instrument/Electrical Technician at the Orange, Texas location within Sabine River Operations (SRO). This position has the primary responsibility to execute the maintenance task in a safe, efficient and effective way.

Responsibilities
  • Review the job package and check if work can be carried out safely and according to the job package.
  • Assures that all Maintenance Procedures include a hazard assessment indicating safety, health and environmental considerations and control measures to prevent contact or exposure.
  • Obtain the work permit.
  • Perform the task for the job package.
  • If significant additional problems are identified during the job that may need a new work order, thoroughly investigate the source/cause of the problem according to the value-added work process.
  • Complete the work and return equipment to operations.
  • Assist in the analysis to ensure the problem is corrected.
  • Apply the skills of respective trade/craft/discipline in executing maintenance work.
  • Leverage trade skills to apprentice and other maintenance associates.
  • Assist in the development of Maintenance Work Procedures.
  • Feedback information on job package quality and Root Cause Analysis data as required.
  • Document/record history.
  • Assist in maintenance planning.
  • Follows job plan to complete work.
  • Follows standard work procedures where available.
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Working knowledge of process instrumentation, motors, electrical circuits and electrical distribution is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have a current, valid US driver’s license.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
  • No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Preferred Qualifications
  • An Associate degree in Electrical or Instrumentation OR 3+ years of military experience with Instrument or Electrical experience is preferred.
  • Experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of reciprocating electrical and instrumentation systems is preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Ability to use and read diagnostic tools.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software.
Physical Demands
  • The following physical demands are required with or without an accommodation
  • Must be willing and able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Must be willing and able to wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
  • Must be willing and able to wear and use respirators
  • Must be willing and able to perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting
  • Must be willing and able to work in tight or closed-in spaces
  • Must be willing and able to climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground
  • Must be willing and able to stand or walk for extended periods of time. Work at heights greater than or equal to 4 ft off the ground.
  • Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs. (This typically accommodates individuals who weigh 285 or less)
Skills
  • Discipline and Trade Technical Knowledge: Demonstrates proficiency in discipline and trade-specific technologies, maintenance methods, equipment systems, and technical practices required to perform work safely and effectively.
  • Maintenance Planning Support: Assists with job planning activities by reviewing job package requirements, identifying resources needed for emergency work, and providing input to planners to improve work execution.
  • Proactive Problem Solving: Understands and utilizes job package content to ensure work is completed according to scope, requirements, procedures, and established maintenance standards.
  • Maintenance Procedures and Compliance: Follows established maintenance procedures, safe work practices, and work processes while ensuring adherence to discipline-specific maintenance requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contributes to the development, review, and enhancement of maintenance procedures by providing technical feedback and recommending process improvements.
  • Data Collection: Accesses and utilizes procedures, records, and technical documentation through Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS) and approved maintenance information systems.
  • Work Process Effectiveness: Evaluates job packages and maintenance activities, providing feedback to improve work quality, efficiency, reliability, and compliance with the Global Maintenance Work Process.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Collects maintenance history data, supports equipment performance tracking, and applies Root Cause Analysis (RCA) principles to identify issues and support continuous reliability improvements.
