Job summary

Mt. Hood Meadows is seeking a Junior Ski Instructor (14–17) for a part-time seasonal role in Parkdale, Oregon. You will join the Meadows Learning Center team to help run youth lessons, assist with check-in, equipment, and day-end activities, while developing skiing/riding skills.

Ideal candidates are passionate about teaching, love the mountain, and can work outdoors in all conditions; 18 teaching days are required, with some weekend/holiday shifts. Background checks apply for those 18+.

Qualifications

  • Age 14–17 and eligible to work with minors.
  • Successful completion of prerequisite PSIA-AASI E-Learning Courses.
  • Ability to ski and/or snowboard safely on blue groomed terrain.
  • Passion for teaching and mountain environment.
  • Strong communication and guest services skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
  • Must have sufficient sight, speech and hearing to instruct.
  • Ability to read and reply to email communications professionally.
  • Must provide own equipment (skis, snowboard, boots, etc.).
  • Minimum 18 teaching days per season; weekends/holidays included.
  • Those 18+ must submit to a background check.
  • Post-training, may qualify for Instructor – Non-Certified position if meeting criteria.

Position Overview

At Mt. Hood Meadows, being a Junior Ski Instructor is about sharing your love of the mountain and helping young guests discover the fun of skiing and snowboarding. You’ll be part of the Meadows Learning Center team, helping create a safe, welcoming, and positive experience for children while developing your own skills as a skier or rider and future instructor.

Junior Instructors work alongside experienced instructors to support youth lessons both indoors and on the mountain. From helping with lessons and lesson check-in to assisting with equipment, lunch, and end-of-day activities, you’ll play an important role in making each child’s day at the mountain fun, organized, and memorable.

Please note: Junior Instructor positions are highly competitive, with a limited number of openings available each season.

This is a part-time, seasonal position

Qualifications & Experience

  • 14 to 17 years of age
  • Successful completion of prerequisite on-line PSIA-AASI E-Learning Courses
  • Minimum ability to ski and/or snowboard safely, linking round turns on intermediate (blue) groomed terrain at Mt. Hood Meadows
  • Passion for teaching and the mountain environment
  • Strong communication and guest services skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work outdoors in all conditions while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Must have sufficient sight, speech and hearing abilities to learn skills, follow and provide directions and instruction to guests
  • Ability to read and reply to email communications in a professional and timely manner
  • Must provide own equipment (e.g. skis, snowboard, ski/snowboard boots, ski poles, gloves, goggles, thermal layers, etc.)
  • Abilitytowork a minimum of 18 teaching days per seasonincluding weekends and school holidays between late-December and mid-April
  • Those 18 years of age or older must submit to a background check to work with minors
  • Upon successful completion of Mt. Hood Meadows Learning Center training and observed demonstration of ability during a lesson, current Junior Instructors who are at least 16 years of age may be eligible for Instructor – Non-Certified position

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Prior experience in a fast paced, guest-facing position
  • Prior experience working with children in an educational or athletic setting

Compensation:

  • Starting Wage: $17.25 hourly
