Job summary

The University of South Carolina invites applications for a full-time, professional-track faculty position as an Instructor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry starting August 16, 2025. This is a 9-month appointment focusing on General Chemistry and Forensic Science.

The Instructor will teach 4 courses per semester (8 total per 9-month term), assist with lab operations and ensure availability of essential chemicals and instrumentation, and support department lecture and lab programs

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in chemistry or forensic science with at least 6 semesters of undergraduate teaching experience by the appointment start date.
• Ph.D. in chemistry or forensic science by the appointment start date with evidence of potential for excellence in teaching.
• Experience teaching general chemistry, forensic science, organic chemistry or chemistry for non-science majors.

Responsibilities

• Teach 4 courses per semester (8 courses total per 9‑month appointment) in General Chemistry and Forensic Science.
• For lab courses, ensure essential chemicals and appropriate instrumentation are available.
• Provide support to the department’s lecture or lab programs as necessary.

Job Summary

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for a full‑time, professional‑track faculty position at the rank of Instructor to begin August 16, 2025. The position is a 9‑month appointment in the areas of General Chemistry and Forensic Science. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.

The instructor will teach 4 courses per semester (8 courses total per 9‑month appointment), or the equivalent in chemistry labs (General Chemistry I and II, Introduction to Forensic Science, and/or chemistry for non‑science majors, etc.). For lab courses, the Instructor will also ensure that essential chemicals and appropriate instrumentation are available. The instructor will also provide support to the Department’s lecture or lab programs as necessary.

Required Education and Experience

A master’s degree in chemistry or forensic science and at least 6 semesters of experience teaching courses at the undergraduate level (as a graduate teaching assistant or as an instructor of record) in general chemistry, forensic science, organic chemistry or chemistry for non‑science majors by the appointment start date.

Preferred Qualifications

A Ph.D. in chemistry, forensic science, or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date with evidence of potential for excellence in teaching.
