Introduction

This position is located in the Health Sciences Department as an Instructor Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring our program’s compliance with ACOTE standards while fostering excellence in both didactic and fieldwork education.

Duties and Responsibilities

• The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is specifically responsible for the program’s compliance with the fieldwork requirements of ACOTE Standards Section C.1.0 and is assigned to the occupational therapy educational program as a full-time faculty member as defined by ACOTE.
• The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator may be assigned other institutional duties that do not interfere with the management and administration of the fieldwork program.
• As Academic Fieldwork Coordinator and under the general supervision of the Department Chair of Health Sciences, effectively develop, conduct, and coordinate the fieldwork academic program.
• As a full-time faculty member of the OTA program, the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator will also work with the Program Director to continually develop didactic and field-work phases of the curriculum; review and revise as needed program standards for admission and graduation; work with program advisory committee to help ensure that program meets needs of the health care community; teach in and assess classroom, lab, and/or community-based instruction in terms of end-of-program and course learning outcomes; develop and implement teaching and assessment strategies and methods to:
• improve learning outcomes;
• address the learning needs of the college's diverse students;
• integrate thinking and writing skills into course content where appropriate;
• use multi-media resources, including computers, where appropriate; regular workload may include evening and weekend classes, continuing education classes, distance education classes, and perform other teaching-related duties that include, but are not limited to, preparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about coursework; prepare graduating students for the certification exam.
• Non-teaching duties include: curriculum design, student advisement, and
• Working collegially to provide service to the department and college,
• Engaging in professional development and professional or scholarly activities related to one's discipline or teaching
• Engaging in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in any field* AND
• 3 years of experience in field work supervision OR 3 years of experience in teaching, curriculum development & administration in an accredited OT or OTA program AND
• Current OT or OTA Hawai‘i State licensure.

*A master's degree or a baccalaureate degree that was awarded prior to July 1, 2015, from an institution that was not regionally or nationally accredited is considered acceptable to meet this standard; for degrees from institutions in countries other than the United States, ACOTE® will determine an alternative and equivalent external review process.

Desirable Qualifications

• At least 2 years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant. (According to ACOTE Standards A.2.4: This individual must be an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant who is licensed or otherwise regulated according to regulations in the state(s) or jurisdiction(s) in which the program is located. The academic fieldwork coordinator must have at least 2 years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant and hold a minimum of a baccalaureate degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional or national accrediting body.)
• Successful teaching and clinical experience in OT/OTA practice
• At least one (1) year of professional experience with program budgeting, knowledge of curriculum development, tests, and measurements
• Understanding the needs of a diverse student population
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and clinical personnel
• Demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships
• Familiarity with information and other technological trends and developments in the OT/OTA field
• Leadership, vision, and skills to represent the program statewide and at the national level.
