Position Summary

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Clinical Instructor is responsible for teaching assigned OTA courses, including laboratory, lecture, hybrid, and distance education courses, within their areas of expertise. This full-time faculty position is primarily assigned to support the OTA Program's weekly laboratory instruction at East Central College campus in Union, Missouri. The instructor will also provide academic advising, participate in program assessment and curriculum development, support recruitment and retention efforts, and contribute to program and institutional initiatives as assigned by the Program Director.

MHPC OTA Program Mission

The mission of the Missouri Health Professions Consortium (MHPC) Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is to educate and prepare occupational therapy assistants to provide occupational therapy interventions to the citizens of Missouri and neighboring states, especially those in rural and underserved areas. The program prepares generalist practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors necessary to work in both traditional and emerging areas of practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach assigned OTA courses, including laboratory, lecture, hybrid, and online coursework.
• Provide weekly laboratory instruction at the East Central College campus in Union, Missouri.
• Develop and/or assist with the development and revision of course syllabi, learning activities, and topical outlines.
• Evaluate student performance and provide timely feedback to support student learning and success.
• Assist in the selection, review, and adoption of instructional materials, including textbooks and online resources.
• Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, program requirements, and professional development.
• Maintain availability for student support through in-person and virtual advising.
• Assist the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, as requested, with the development and evaluation of Level I and Level II fieldwork processes and experiences.
• Participate in program evaluation, student outcomes assessment, accreditation activities, and curriculum development initiatives.
• Serve on program, college, and consortium committees as assigned.
• Develop and maintain an ongoing professional development plan in collaboration with the Program Director.
• Engage in clinical and professional activities that support the mission of the OTA Program and maintain clinical competence.
• Participate in student recruitment, retention, community outreach, and program marketing activities.
• Travel to consortium campuses and program events as needed to support student success and program operations.
• Support and uphold the mission, vision, values, and goals of the Missouri Health Professions Consortium (MHPC) Occupational Therapy Assistant Program.

Qualifications Required

• Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA/L) or Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR/L)
• Licensed in the State of Missouri or eligible for Missouri licensure
• Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as an occupational therapy assistant or occupational therapist
• If an Occupational Therapist, demonstrates understanding of and experience collaborating with occupational therapy assistants
• Experience using computer technology, educational technology, and electronic communication tools
• Knowledge of distance education and online instructional methods
• Demonstrated expertise in the content area(s) assigned for instruction
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

• Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA/L)
• Teaching experience in higher education, continuing education, or clinical education
• Experience teaching laboratory-based healthcare courses
• Experience with learning management systems and online instruction

Education

Bachelor's degree required.

Primary Work Location

East Central College, Union, Missouri. Regular travel to consortium campuses and clinical or program-related sites may be required.

Employment will require a criminal background check at College expense. Preference is given to Missouri residents.
