Job Title

Instructor, Artificial Intelligence (AI) - Adjunct

Job Description

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. They will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.

Under general supervision, this individual will prepare and teach courses designed to prepare students to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) more effectively, including the use of tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Microsoft Co-Pilot, etc. Areas of instructional emphasis include applied hands‑on learning, AI Literacy and Responsible Use, Generative AI and Emerging Tools, and foundational concepts for clear application. The faculty member must be able to instruct a wide variety of topics within the curriculum in a classroom environment and may be required to teach day, evening and/or weekend hours. Flexibility to teach on any of GTCC multiple campuses (Greensboro, Jamestown, High Point or Cameron campus).

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach departmental courses
  • Create learner‑centered lesson plans
  • Employ teaching strategies and instructional materials for different learning styles
  • Incorporate current technology in classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments as pedagogically appropriate
  • Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population
  • Prepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate
  • Conduct appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriate
Professional Development & Administration
  • Maintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by participating in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field; maintaining current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies
  • Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records, including maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces and ensuring the security of instructional materials
  • Maintain student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using a variety of technology‑based programs (e.g., Colleague, Self Service, Canvas)
  • Comply with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulations
  • Address student concerns in a timely manner and promote retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success
  • Refer students to campus and community resources when appropriate
  • Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem‑solving, responsibility and teamwork
Education Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in artificial intelligence, computer science, data science, computer information systems or a related field from an institutionally accredited college or university.
  • Experience in at least one programming language (e.g., Python), data literacy, machine learning and AI tools.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in artificial intelligence, computer science, data science, computer information systems or a related field from an institutionally accredited college or university.
  • Current industry‑recognized certifications in any of the following: Google Pro Machine Learning Engineering, Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate, AWS Certified MachineLearning – Specialty, TensorFlow Developer Certificate, etc.
Experience Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Two years of professional experience in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science or a related technical field.
  • Teaching and/or industry training experience in AI concepts including Machine Learning Fundamentals, Data Analysis and Modeling, and AI Applications in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional‑development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Greater than two years industry experience applying AI in business, healthcare, education, or other applied domains.
  • Post‑secondary teaching experience.
  • Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Experience with teaching distance learning (online) and/or alternate instructional delivery systems.

  • Criminal history checks, with acceptable results, are required.
Physical Demands
  • May include teaching day and evening and on multiple campuses (Greensboro, Jamestown, High Point or Cameron campus).
  • Typical settings specific to discipline classroom or computer‑lab space.
  • Stand for extended periods of time; lift at least 25 pounds.
