Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) at the North Central Correctional Complex in Marion, Ohio, seeks an instructor to teach Adult Basic Education (ABE) and GED to inmates. The role includes life skills, health education, and related subjects tailored to class abilities.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s Degree with Ohio teaching certification for adult education or GED, with experience preferred. ESL or special education certification is required if those areas are taught.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with teaching certification for adult basic education or GED (Ohio).
• One year teaching experience preferred.
• ESL and special education certification required if instructing in these areas.
• Valid Ohio driver's license with acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct classes for inmates in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and GED, life skills, health education, and related curriculum.
• Prepare teaching plans, activities, and materials suited to the class.
• Use appropriate audio/visual materials customized to inmate needs.
• Administer educational tests and use results to guide instruction.
• Participate in staff conferences to develop and improve programs.
• Counsel and advise inmates on academic programs.
• Coordinate activities with school districts or other parties.
• Develop materials for assigned classes.

Education

Job Description

Pay: $22.49 per hour

Schedule: Full-Time

Essential Duties

• Plan and conduct classes for inmates in Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Education Development (GED), life skills, cultural awareness, health education, and special education curriculum and other subjects selected to correspond with the ability and limitations of the class.
• Prepare special teaching plans, courses, activities and learning experiences appropriate for the specific inmates assigned.
• Utilize appropriate audio and visual teaching materials individualized to the specific needs of the inmate.
• Administer individual educational tests and learning aptitude tests and use the results for prescriptive instruction.
• Participate in staff conferences to develop and improve educational programs.
• Counsel and advise inmates on academic programs.
• Coordinate activities and classes in conjunction with appropriate school districts or other involved parties.
• Develop program and related educational materials as necessary for the establishment and maintenance of assigned classes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and valid teaching certification appropriate for adult basic education or GED issued by the Ohio Department of Education in elementary or secondary education required.
• One (1) year experience preferred.
• ESL and special education certification required if instructing in these areas.
• A valid driver’s license in the state of Ohio with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
• Must successfully complete all annual in-service requirements.
