Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) at the Gadsden Correctional Facility in Quincy, FL, seeks a vocational instructor to educate inmates in approved programs. The role reports to the senior instructor and ensures instruction adheres to ACA standards, MTC policies, and FDOC directives.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in the taught vocation or a high school diploma with 3 years’ relevant experience and Florida teaching certification; a valid Florida driver’s license is required unless waived.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in the vocation certified to teach.
• Florida Department of Education teaching certification or equivalent.
• A valid Florida driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Deliver vocational instruction to inmates in classrooms and labs.
• Develop objectives and tests aligned to program content.
• Select and adapt instructional materials to achieve mastery.
• Plan activities to secure equipment and supplies for training.
• Monitor motivation, discipline, and learning to effect positive changes.
• Handle facility procedures and maintain safety.
• Model positive social skills and address inappropriate behavior.
• Ensure accountability of inmates and property.

Position Summary

Reports to the senior instructor. Responsible for providing vocational instruction to inmates in accordance with approved curricula. Provides inmates with basic direction in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) directives.

Essential Functions

• Deliver individualized competency-based instruction through classroom and laboratory management in the occupation program areas taught to inmates
• Develop performance objectives and criterion-referenced tests in accordance with established program content, incorporate written and skill assessments.
• Review, select and adapt instructional materials to help individuals reach mastery of the competencies required for entry, advancement, and upgrading occupations.
• Plan activities to efficiently initiate budget request to assure that all equipment, supplies, and materials are available to support a progressive training schedule.
• Monitor motivation, discipline, and learning difficulties to bring about positive changes in the behavior of offenders.
• Execute all applicable forms to adhere to facility procedures.
• Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
• Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in the vocation certified to teach, or high school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years’ experience in the vocation being taught and valid secondary teaching certification issued by Florida Department of Education required. A Valid driver’s license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
