Job summary

Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI seeks an Instructional Technologist to implement and maintain instructional technologies, with primary responsibility for the D2L Brightspace LMS, and to provide tier 1 and 2 support to faculty and students.

You will develop training materials, documentation, and how-to guides; collaborate with Instructional Design staff; monitor service requests via Freshservice ITSM; and assist in piloting new educational technologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of two years' experience supporting or administering an LMS (preferably D2L Brightspace or similar platforms such as Canvas or Blackboard).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical users.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tier 1 and tier 2 end-user support for faculty and students in the use of D2L Brightspace and related instructional technologies.
  • Assist with installation, maintenance, and support of all approved academic technologies; support integrating emerging technologies such as Panopto and collaboration tools.
  • Monitor, track and manage Instructional Design service requests through Freshservice ITSM, ensuring timely resolution and clear communication.
  • Create and deliver training and develop how-to documentation of instructional technologies and tools.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the InstructionalTechnologist is responsible for assistingin theimplementation andmaintenance of all supporting technologieswhichenhance the teaching and learning process. TheInstructional Technologist is a direct line of support for facultyand students for any University-approvedacademictechnologies.The Instructional Technologist partners withothers to address the creation of documentation, training, andlearning materials related to instructionaltechnologies.
The current RWU Learning Management System is D2L Brightspace.

Essential Functions

Provide tier 1 and tier 2 end-user support, includingdiagnosing, troubleshooting, resolution, escalation, and follow upas needed on campus and online for both faculty and students in theuse of D2L Brightspace and related instructional technologies.

Assist with installation, maintenance, and support of allapproved academic technologies. Support faculty in integratingemerging technologies, including multimedia (Panopto), andcollaboration tools.

Monitor, track and manage Instructional Design service requesttickets through Freshservice ITSM platform, ensuring timelyresolution and clear communication.

Create and deliver training and develop how-to documentation ofinstructional technologies and tools as required.

Additional Functions

Collaborate with Instructional Design staff to ensure that usersare informed about current developments and policies related toinstructional technologies at RWU.

Support faculty in applying instructional design principles totechnology use.

Ensure instructional materials meet accessibility standards(e.g., captioning, screen reader compatibility).

Assist in evaluating and piloting new educationaltechnologies.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree.

Minimum of two years' experience supporting or administering anLMS (preferably D2L Brightspace or similar platforms such as Canvasor Blackboard).

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technicalusers.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working in an academic environment and in D2LBrightspace.

Additional professional education and/or experience.
