Responsibilities

  • Provide input for learning objects for interactive eLearning solutions using HTML5, Captivate, Edge delivery, or equivalents.
  • Complete data entry and technical writing activities.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining design documents and storyboards using templates and style guides.
  • Draft and update formative knowledge checks aligned to learning objectives and coordinate assessment approach.
  • Support packaging and validation of courseware artifacts in required formats (SCORM) and coordinate LMS publishing.
  • Apply basic Section 508/WCAG accessibility practices and document issues for remediation.
  • Work with SMEs to ensure technical accuracy and with multimedia designers on audio/visual materials.
  • Develop course manuals, training aids, and other resources as needed.

Job description

Instructional System Designer

Location: Hanover, MD (Hybrid) | Status: Open

We are currently seeking an Instructional System Designer to design, develop, and revise complex, interactive technical virtual learning modules. This role ensures the integrity of task analysis, training requirements, training hierarchies, instructional materials, and evaluation plans, converting written materials and training requirements into online interactive courseware. The Instructional System Designer executes assigned tasks under the guidance of senior instructional design staff, using government-approved templates and processes, and maintains audit-ready instructional design artifacts in approved repositories.

Work Schedule

Courses run 0700-1800, Monday through Friday. Contract core hours are 1000-1400.

Essential Responsibilities (describe the day-to-day)
  • Provide input for learning objects for interactive eLearning solutions, using HTML5, Captivate, Edge delivery, or government-approved equivalents.
  • Complete data entry and technical writing activities.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining design documents and storyboards using government-approved templates, style guides, and standard operating procedures, incorporating SME input and documenting technical review comments and dispositions as directed.
  • Draft and update formative knowledge checks and practice activities aligned to measurable learning objectives, coordinating assessment approach with senior instructional design or testing personnel as applicable.
  • Support packaging and validation of courseware artifacts in required formats (such as SCORM), coordinating publishing inputs with LMS administration and configuration management per established procedures.
  • Apply basic Section 508/WCAG accessibility practices (headings, alt text, color/contrast considerations) and document identified issues for remediation as directed.
  • Work with subject matter experts to ensure technical accuracy of instructional content, and with multimedia and graphic designers on audio/visual materials.
  • Develop course manuals, training aids, and other resources as needed to enhance training.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

General office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Experience in instructional/curriculum development, including development or maintenance of interactive eLearning and/or instructor-led course materials.
  • Experience with storyboard and design document development.
  • Experience mapping learning objectives to KSA/JQS requirements, as applicable.
  • Experience applying adult learning principles and basic instructional systems design practices, such as ADDIE, to develop or revise course content.
Security Clearance Required

TS/SCI preferred

Minimum Education

One of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Systems Design, Instructional Technology, Education, English, Communications, or a related field, plus two (2) years of relevant experience; or
  • Associate's degree (or 18 semester hours of military coursework/training in a related field), plus four (4) years of relevant experience; or
  • High school diploma/GED, plus six (6) years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with eLearning authoring and media tools such as Captivate, Articulate, Camtasia, or government-approved equivalents.
  • Experience working with highly technical or complex subject matter, such as cybersecurity, computer networking, IT, or complex hardware/software systems.
  • Experience drafting or updating formative knowledge checks and practice activities aligned to learning objectives.
  • Familiarity with basic accessibility principles and Section 508/WCAG considerations.
  • Experience maintaining instructional design artifacts in controlled repositories and following versioning conventions.

Compensation Details
$100,000 - $150,000
