Job summary

The Newark Board of Education invites qualified applicants for the Confidential Special Assistant – Instructional to support the School Leadership Team across designated schools, ensuring high-quality instructional services.

The role emphasizes coaching SLT staff, developing professional development, monitoring student outcomes with data, coordinating panels, and managing resources to sustain district-wide instructional excellence.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Five (5) years of teaching experience, plus three (3) years of administrative experience.
• Principal Standard Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Implement strategic initiatives aligned with the District's vision for instructional practices.
• Coach and mentor school administrators with 75% of work time at SLT schools.
• Focus on student outcomes and teacher quality while managing resources.
• Set targeted student performance goals and metrics with administrators.
• Support panels and committees under NTU labor agreement.
• Design and deliver professional development for instructional leadership.
• Provide technical assistance to school administrators and teachers.
• Conduct classroom walk-throughs aligned to student achievement and goals.
• Evaluate teaching staff as necessary.
• Assist daily school operations and maintain records as directed by SLT.
• Coordinate liaison with budget, HR, facilities, safety, and inventory teams.
