Job summary

Newark Public Schools seeks an Instructional Coach to support curriculum initiatives and drive school improvement. The role emphasizes spending substantial time in classrooms coaching teachers, modeling best practices, and co‑teaching lessons across specific curriculum areas.

The incumbent will design and deliver professional development, support curriculum resources, assess school needs, and collaborate with district leadership to implement programs.

Qualifications

  • New Jersey Permanent Teacher Certificate in Specific Content/Curriculum area.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Master's Degree in Education or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implement strategic initiatives that align with the district's vision for curriculum and instruction.
  • Spend a minimum of 75% of work time in the school classroom providing instructional support to teachers, modeling best practices, and co‑teaching lessons.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to teachers to enhance instructional practices, including feedback on lesson plans and classroom management.
  • Design and deliver professional development opportunities for teachers on instructional design, delivery, and assessment.
  • Support the implementation of curriculum, instructional resources, and professional development in curriculum specific areas.
  • Assist in assessing the educational needs of schools and identifying ways to meet those needs.
  • Facilitate acquisition of resources for schools related to curriculum initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent or Directors to develop and implement programs meeting goals.
  • Assist in planning and managing district summer school programs with focus on curriculum areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Newark Public Schools seeks an Instructional Coach to support the work of the various offices by driving curriculum specific initiatives and programs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with expertise in specific curriculum areas and operations to make a lasting impact on Newark's students and families. This position may also include other duties as assigned.

  • Assisting in planning and managing the implementation of the district's summer school programs with focus on specific curriculum areas during the summer season.
  • Perform other duties and tasks assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and/or Director(s).

Minimum Qualifications

Salary, Employment Period, and Union Affiliation

Salary: $74,063 to $129,952 (for 2025-2026 SY)

Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months

Union Affiliation: Newark Teachers Union (NTU)
