Job summary

San Diego Mesa College is seeking an Instructional Lab Technician to provide complex technical and instructional support for the Library and Learning Resource Center. The role covers library instruction, instructional technology and multimedia services, equipment loan programs, and daily operation of instructional spaces.

Qualifications

• Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in library science, educational/instructional technology, education, communications, computer/information technology, or a related field, and/or progressively responsible experience in a library, learning resource center, or similar academic environment.
• Experience providing technical assistance and instruction to students, faculty, or staff in the operation of audiovisual, computer, multimedia, or other instructional technologies and equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and support instructional equipment and technology.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate library instructional support, including audiovisual/instructional technology in classrooms and technology loan programs.
• Provide lead direction, training, and technical guidance to staff, hourly employees, and student workers.
• Test, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain audiovisual, multimedia, and instructional equipment; coordinate major repairs with vendors.
• Support data collection and reporting; maintain accurate records on equipment circulation, inventory, and maintenance.
• Participate in evaluating and acquiring equipment/technology; liaise with vendors and campus departments.
• Help develop and maintain training materials, procedures, and user guides for library technologies.

Job description

Under the direction of the Mesa Library Instructional Support Supervisor, the Instructional Lab Technician (ILT) provides complex technical and instructional support for the Library and Learning Resource Center (LRC) at San Diego Mesa College, including library instruction, instructional technology and multimedia services, equipment loan programs, and daily operation of instructional spaces. The ILT delivers technical assistance and customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community members, and serves as the technical resource for library equipment, audiovisual systems, and instructional technologies.

Primary Duties

• Coordinate library instructional support, including audiovisual/instructional technology in classrooms and technology loan programs.
• Provide lead direction, training, and technical guidance to staff, hourly employees, and student workers.
• Test, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain audiovisual, multimedia, and instructional equipment; coordinate major repairs with vendors.

Compensation

Range 23 ($5,448.21 – $6,814.00) per month, AFT Classified Professionals salary schedule. Full-time, 12-month, FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime). Excellent benefits for contract employees at 0.50 FTE or greater.
