Job description

Montgomery College, Takoma Park-Silver Spring campus is seeking an outstanding full-time Medical-Surgical Nursing faculty member beginning January 2027. We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with a strong commitment to health science education and the ability to motivate and engage students to succeed. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student success, working in a multi-cultural environment, commitment to the community college mission, and have effective oral and written communication skills. Outstanding candidates with a passion for teaching are particularly encouraged to apply to join the dedicated faculty of the Allied Health Sciences Department.

Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, online, hybrid, and/or blended formats during days, evenings, and weekends. Montgomery College has multiple campuses, and faculty may be assigned to teach in-person at any of these campuses and teach online.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Teach a variety of classroom, laboratory and clinical courses within the Nursing program.
  • Teach 30 semester hours per academic year. Opportunities may exist to teach summer classes.
  • Teach a varied schedule of courses that may include day, night, early morning, weekend and/or accelerated sections, or possibly be asked to teach on another campus if needed.
  • Opportunities may exist for teaching summer classes.
  • Participate in discipline-related activities such as program evaluation, curriculum design, and outcomes assessment and evaluation.
  • Provide support to the program and clinical coordinator as needed.
  • Participate in ACEN accreditation activities and abide by accreditation guidelines and standards.
  • Engage in continuing education for the maintenance of credentials and accreditation requirements.
  • Faculty members are expected to serve on departmental, campus, and/or college committees, hold office hours, advise students, participate in course and program assessment, and maintain an active personal program of professional development and continuous learning.
  • Relevant physical activities include, but are not limited to: Safely transfer patients in and out of bed; safely ambulate patients; turn and position patients as needed to prevent complications due to bed rest; hang intravenous bags at the appropriate level; accurately read the volumes in body fluid collection devices hung below bed level; perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Maryland and District of Columbia Registered Nurse unencumbered license or eligibility to obtain licensure.
  • A minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Recent experience (within the last 2 years) in medical-surgical nursing and /or a specialty area (mental health, maternity, pediatrics)
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Experience integrating technology into course delivery including use of a Learning Management System.
  • Experience utilizing high-impact teaching pedagogies to foster student engagement and active-learning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices and support of a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated effective collaboration with colleagues.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Additional Requirements at the Time of Hire:

  • Requires documentation of immunizations and/or immunity for Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR); Varicella; Tetanus, Diphtheria & Acellular Pertussis (Tdap); and Hepatitis B; annual clearance for tuberculosis; seasonal influenza immunization.
  • Other health requirements may be needed by specific health care agencies for clinical experiences
  • Documentation required for current healthcare provider level of CPR-BLS.
  • Criminal background clearance and drug/alcohol testing may be required for clinical experiences.

Hiring Range: $64,510 - $98,220

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Nursing and/or Education.
  • Previous didactic and clinical teaching experience at the college level.
  • Expertise in Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Mental Health, Critical Care or Nursing Simulation.
  • Ability to integrate technology into didactic course delivery.
  • Experience with the use of simulation as a teaching methodology.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching practices and support of a diverse student population.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.

  • Participation in a retirement plan (Pension or Optional Retirement Plan, depending on the position). If you are already retired from the Maryland State Retirement System, you may not enroll in a Maryland State Retirement System plan at Montgomery College and may have earnings restrictions, per state law.
