Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Continuing and Professional Education seeks an experienced Instructional Designer to translate faculty expertise and industry needs into engaging, skills-based education for adult learners. The role partners with faculty, SMEs, and industry to design outcomes-driven courses across online, hybrid, and in-person formats.

It requires collaboration, accessibility focus, and strong project management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, or a related field.
• Minimum three years designing online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced learning.
• Experience with LMS and educational technologies used to support teaching and learning.
• Knowledge of instructional design, adult learning, outcomes, assessment design and evidence-based practices.
• Experience collaborating with faculty, subject matter experts, clients, or stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Instructional Design and Course Development—design engaging, accessible learning experiences across formats.
• Translate content into practical, skills-based learning pathways with measurable outcomes.
• Collaborate with faculty, SMEs, staff, and industry partners to identify learning needs.
• Build and maintain courses in Canvas; ensure accessibility, usability, and learner engagement.
• Manage multiple projects from scoping to revision with QA and timeliness.
