Qualifications

  • Experience applying instructional design principles, learning theory, and research-informed teaching practices to course design.
  • Experience developing online, hybrid, or technology-enhanced courses and digital instructional materials.
  • Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive-design practices.
  • Experience with a learning management system, preferably Canvas, and other instructional technologies used in higher education.

  • Consult with faculty on course and program design, instructional strategies, assessment, student engagement, accessibility, and effective use of instructional technologies.
  • Apply learning theory, instructional design models, accessibility standards, and research-informed practices to online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses.
  • Guide faculty through course-development and revision processes, including organizing content, aligning learning outcomes with activities and assessments, and creating clear and consistent learning experiences.

  • Develop instructional materials, templates, guides, and other faculty resources.

DepartmentOffice of Teaching & Learning (OTL), Online Course DevelopmentCompensation$56,000.00 to Negotiable AnnualGeneral Description / Primary PurposeThe Instructional Designer in the Office of Teaching and Learning collaborates with faculty and other subject matter experts to design, develop, and improve effective, engaging, accessible, and technology-enhanced learning experiences. The position supports the design and delivery of online courses and contributes to faculty development and institutional course-quality initiatives. This is an on-campus position.Job FunctionConsult with faculty on course and program design, instructional strategies, assessment, student engagement, accessibility, and the effective use of instructional technologies.Apply learning theory, instructional design models, accessibility standards, and research-informed practices to the development and improvement of online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses.Guide faculty through course-development and revision processes, including organizing content, aligning learning outcomes with activities and assessments, and creating clear and consistent learning experiences.Review courses using university-approved quality standards and rubrics and provide actionable recommendations.Develop instructional materials, templates, guides, and other faculty resources.Design and facilitate consultations, workshops, and faculty development programs on course design, teaching, accessibility, course quality, and instructional technology.Collaborate with OTL colleagues and campus partners on teaching and learning initiatives. Maintain current knowledge of emerging practices and technologies relevant to higher education and evaluate their appropriate use.Interprets and applies university policies, standards, and procedures and recommends revisions to practices and procedures as appropriate.Contributes to the development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of OTL programs, resources, procedures, and course-quality initiatives.Utilizes university systems to support assigned functions, including access to student and faculty information, and maintains confidentiality in accordance with institutional polices and applicable laws.Marginal FunctionsOther duties as assigned.During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off-campus location or place of residence.Supervision ReceivedGeneral supervision. The incumbent independently manages a variety of complex responsibilities within established guidelines, exercises professional judgment while work is in process, and receives direction on new assignments and institutional priorities.Required QualificationsMaster's or Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla.
