Littleville Elementary School in Huntington, MA is seeking an Instructional Assistant to support a vision-impaired student one-on-one, helping with navigation, routines, and accommodations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Description

Gateway Regional School District is seeking a caring individual to provide one‑on‑one support to an elementary school student with disabilities.

Qualified Candidates Must:

• Be patient, thoughtful, and caring and be able to set limits appropriately
• Experience with elementary children (preferred)
• Experience working with students with Braille and assistive technology (preferred)
• Strong verbal communication skills
• Hold an unwavering belief that every student can grow and succeed

Professional Responsibilities Include:

• Support a vision‑impaired student in navigating the school environment safely (hallways, cafeteria, transitions).
• Support the student in understanding and following classroom and school routines.
• Assist with adapting instructional materials and other accommodations recommended by the Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and related service providers.
• Recognize signs of sensory overload and assist the student in accessing sensory tools or breaks as outlined in the IEP.
• Maintain calm, consistent responses to challenging behaviors and follow established de‑escalation protocols.
• Break down tasks into manageable steps and provide visual supports.
• Support the student in participating in whole‑group, small‑group, and independent work to the greatest extent possible.
• Support the student in developing self‑advocacy skills, such as requesting help or breaks.
• Take feedback and instruction from teachers and therapists.
• Assist with data collection, progress monitoring, and other documentation as needed to inform instruction and IEP goals.
• Collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, and administrators, to implement individualized strategies that meet students’ needs.
• Maintain professional confidentiality about students and families
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration to support the success and well‑being of students.
• Salary range: $18.24-$29.18, dependent upon education, experience, and placement.
