Job summary

McKinley in Southern California seeks an Instructional Assistant to support teachers and address the academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional needs of students. Responsibilities include direct instructional support, data collection, supervision, and transportation duties as needed.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree preferred, strong communication, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, pass a pre‑employment physical, TB test, and drug screening, and willingness to complete Pro‑ACT.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
• Experience working with students with learning, emotional, and behavioral disabilities, autism spectrum, speech and communication disorders preferred.
• Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Able to work independently and as a self-starter with minimal supervision.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical examination, tuberculosis (TB) test, and drug screening.
• Ability to commute to various school sites based on program needs.
• Must successfully complete and maintain certification in Pro-ACT.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and physically assist, move, or restrain students as necessary to ensure safety and support.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support in a variety of academic areas.
• Follow through on intervention plans with children with consistency and professionalism.
• Fill in as a substitute teacher (if qualified).
• Ability to work in several different classrooms and with varying ages and grade levels.
• Assist in classroom management, crisis response, and physical restraint as trained.
• Provide tutoring to students in small groups or one-on-one.
• Follow through on behavior and academic intervention plans.
• Work as part of a team with the classroom teacher and other staff members.
• Set limits and intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the children and families served.
• Provide transportation for community-based students to and from school.
• Ability to perform transportation duties as a driver and or a rider on a van route.
• Collaborate with counseling or behavioral staff and implement feedback.
• Collect and document behavioral and academic data as directed
• Providing toileting assistance to students as needed
• Maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries at all times
• Represent the agency in a professional, respectful manner when interacting with internal and external stakeholders
• Complete all onboarding requirements within the designated time frame and remain in compliance with agency expectations for timely review and acknowledgment of policies, procedures, and trainings
• Perform all other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
