Job summary

Wentzville School District seeks an Instructional Assistant for the ONCE Reading Title Funded Tutor role at Heritage Elementary. This temporary 10‑month position (35 hours per week) supports instruction, progress documentation, and feedback implementation under DESE guidelines.

Starting salary is $16.92 per hour with a full benefits package including health, dental, vision and life coverage, paid leave, and PEERS retirement participation.

Qualifications

• Instructional Assistants must meet the qualifications specified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to obtain a substitute certificate and understand the objectives of public education.
• Candidates must produce standard English phonemes with precision and blend them into words (connected phonation).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in formal English; careful instruction preparation and progress documentation.
• Instructional Assistants may initiate instruction and work independently with students.
• This position requires being considered highly qualified by MO DESE; ParaPathways Assessment through ETS must be passed if the applicant lacks an Associate's Degree or 60 college credits.

Qualifications/Requirements

Instructional Assistants must meet the qualifications specified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in order to obtain a substitute teacher certificate and have a general understanding of the objectives of public school education. Candidates must be able to produce standard English phonemes with precision and consistency both in isolation and when blending them together into words (through connected phonation). Have excellent verbal and written communication skills in formal English. Pay meticulous attention to detail when preparing for instruction, attending to students, documenting students' progress, and implementing feedback from coaches. Instructional Assistants may initiate instruction and work independently with students.

This position also requires the applicant to be considered highly qualified by MO DESE. The ParaPathways Assessment through ETS must also be passed as a requirement for this position ONLY IF the applicant does not have an Associate's Degree or a Minimum of 60 college credit hours.
