Job summary

Poplar Public School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant to support certified staff in classroom activities and student supervision. You will reinforce reading, math and language arts, work with students individually or in small groups, and help with tests, records and instructional materials.

You will assist in daily living activities for students with special needs, participate in IEP processes, and help maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment across diverse school settings.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• College coursework or passing examination under NCLB required.
• Experience with students with special needs is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
• Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement programs.
• Assists professional staff in administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills.
• Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
• Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and keep students on task.
• Assists students in non-instructional areas such as lunch supervision, bus duty, playground duty, etc.
• Accompanies students on field trips for supervision.
• Constructs, copies, distributes and uses educational materials as needed.
• Assists teacher with parent contact to foster involvement.
• Assists students with special needs to maximize inclusion and achievement.
• Participates in IEP process as resource for evaluation team.
• Assist students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living.
• Follows safety rules and procedures for assisting all students.
