Job summary

NTC is seeking a part-time Diesel Instructional Assistant to support Diesel Technology faculty by preparing labs, equipment, tools, vehicles, and materials; assisting students and reinforcing safety practices. This grant-funded role supports hands-on instruction under faculty supervision.

This 24 hours/week position runs for 33 weeks per year, with HS/GED required and 3 years in the diesel repair industry; an Associate degree is preferred and CDL is a plus.

Qualifications

• Education: High School/GED; Associate degree preferred.
• 3 years of experience in Diesel Equipment repair required.
• Math calculations related to diesel repair experience essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare laboratories, vehicles, tools, equipment, parts, and instructional materials.
• Assist faculty during classroom, laboratory, and hands-on sessions.
• Provide individual or small-group student support.
• Promote safe work practices and address unsafe conditions.

The Instructional Assistant works under the direction of faculty and does not independently determine curriculum, assign grades, evaluate final competency achievement, or replace the faculty member’s responsibility for instruction and assessment.**This position is funded by a grant which has a projected grant end date of June 30, 2028. Funding for this position beyond this date is dependent upon budget and operational needs.****This is a part-time position working 24 hours per week, 33 weeks per year.****Essential Functions and Responsibilities***The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.*Key responsibilities include:* Prepare laboratories, vehicles, tools, equipment, parts, and instructional materials for scheduled learning activities.* Assist faculty during classroom, laboratory, and hands-on learning experiences.* Reinforce previously taught Diesel-Math concepts and demonstrate in lab procedures as directed by faculty.* Provide individual or small-group assistance to students practicing assigned skills.* Promote safe work practices and immediately address or report unsafe conditions and behaviors.* Help students properly use, clean, organize, and return tools and equipment.* Maintain an orderly, professional, and industry-relevant learning environment.* Perform routine equipment checks and communicate maintenance, repair, supply, and inventory needs.**Minimum Qualifications Required***In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.***Education:** High School Education / GEDAssociate degree in a related field preferred.**Experience:** 3 YearsAdditional Experience Information:At least 3 years’ experience in the Diesel Equipment repair industry.
