Position Summary

An Instructional Assistant supports Storm Lake Community School District's commitment to ensuring all students achieve at grade level by assisting with instruction and supervising students in a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. This role works under the direction of the classroom teacher to support student learning, maintain routines, and foster positive relationships.

Essential Responsibilities

Student Support & Learning

• Assist students individually or in small groups with academic and behavioral support as directed by the teacher
• Help students stay engaged and participate in classroom activities
• Support implementation of teacher-provided lesson plans and routines

Relationships & Culture

• Help maintain a safe, orderly, and inclusive environment that values students' cultures and identities
• Build positive relationships with students to support engagement and behavior
• Reinforce classroom expectations and positive behavior supports

Classroom & Supervision

• Supervise students in classrooms and during transitions (hallways, lunch, recess, etc.)
• Assist with the organization and cleanup of materials and activitiesFollow all school procedures and staff directions

Professional Expectations

• Maintain confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines
• Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and professionalism
• Adapt to different classrooms and student needs
• Support the district's commitment to a student-centered environment

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required
