Job summary

Northern Trust is seeking a Trader to execute and oversee institutional equity trading across the Americas. You will work with PMs, sales traders, and brokers to ensure high-quality execution within risk controls and regulatory requirements.

The role emphasizes strong market judgment, understanding of liquidity and market structure, and collaboration across desks, with a focus on risk management and operational discipline.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of institutional equity trading or related market experience.
• FINRA Series 7, 57, and 63 licenses required.
• Strong understanding of equity market structure, liquidity dynamics, and algo trading strategies.
• Excellent communication and relationship management with institutional clients.

Responsibilities

• Execute institutional equity orders across market conditions following client instructions and best execution standards.
• Determine execution strategies, broker selection, and algorithm usage based on liquidity and trading objectives.
• Partner with portfolio managers, trading colleagues, and sales traders to ensure seamless trade flow.
• Monitor execution quality, identify risks, and elevate concerns as appropriate.
• Operate within trading limits, entitlements, and control frameworks while maintaining compliance.
• Support audits by documenting trading decisions, rationale, and outcomes.
• Utilize pre-trade and post-trade analytics to inform trading decisions.
• Improve trading workflows, controls, and technology for execution quality.
