Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking dedicated professionals to support facility programs and offender activities. You will coordinate and supervise offender groups, work with treatment teams, and connect community partners to meaningful projects.

Beneficiaries include offenders, staff, and the broader community as you promote rehabilitation, safety, and outreach. This role emphasizes collaboration, structure, and adherence to procedures.

Qualifications

  • Four or more years of correctional experience or comparable work in social services, probation/parole, or related fields.
  • Earned college credit hours may be substituted on a year-for-year basis at 30 credit hours per year.
  • Experience with treatment teams and offender programs is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, coordinate new or revised facility activity programs for offenders.
  • Monitors files and works with treatment teams to identify participants for programs and referrals.
  • Schedules and supervises offender groups and related visits outside the facility.
  • Assists offender groups in selecting community projects and engages volunteers and partners.

The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $1.50 per hour maximum security differential ($3,120 annually) for all full-time positions domiciled in a maximum-security institution.

  • Plans/develops/coordinates new or revised facility activity programs, including offender organizations, work release and/or education release; confers with supervisors and various facility department heads with regard to activity planning and scheduling for the purpose of developing a more comprehensive program
  • Monitors files and works with facility treatment teams in order to identify offenders eligible for participation in program activities; monitors and maintains records of eligible participants; makes referrals to appropriate community service or job site
  • Schedules and supervises offender groups or workers functioning outside the facility; schedules volunteer and related groups for visits to the facility
  • Assists offender groups in selection of community projects within the community for an effective volunteer program; enlists the support of interested volunteer and professional groups and employers in making their programs or jobs available to offenders
  • Performs work in accordance with established rules and regulations; receives general and administrative direction; and preforms other related work as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

Four or more years of correctional experience, or vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework, guidance and counseling, mental health, health, substance abuse, law enforcement, public or business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities.

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year)

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years! If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
