The Installation Technician series of job classifications describes technical work involving electrical installation of various research equipment, apparatus and components, and fabricating and assembling related equipment used in large-scale experiments. There are three levels in the series: Installation Technician, Principal Installation Technician, and Principal Installation Technician Lead. Thethree levels are distinguished by the degree of familiarity with laboratory practices, task complexity, and the extent of supervision required.
Under the direction of a lead, supervisor or scientific and engineering staff, employees in this classification work on routine electrical installations.
Assignments and instructions are provided in a verbal and/or written form and include wiring lists, installation request forms, and simple block diagrams or schematics.
Work is to be performed in conformance with these instructions and laboratory safety practices.
Assignments may be reviewed in progress or at the completion of each instruction depending on the complexity of the particular task.
