Qualifications

Role Overview

The Installations Specialist installs Dornier MedTech capital equipment at hospitals, surgery centers, and clinics across the United States. Working as part of an installation crew and, with experience, independently, this role is responsible for the mechanical, electrical, and functional quality of each installation from uncrating through customer handoff. For many customers, this installation is their first hands‑on experience with Dornier MedTech, making this role the face of the company on site. This is an entry‑level position within our Service team and a strong starting point for a technical career at Dornier MedTech.

Travel and Physical Requirements

This role requires extensive overnight travel - typically 75 percent or more - to customer sites nationwide, with schedules that may include evenings, weekends, or extended hours based on customer availability. Employees should live near a major airport. Work is performed primarily in hospitals, surgery centers, and clinical settings. Employees must be able to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, climb, and regularly lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance for heavier components), and should be comfortable working around moving mechanical parts, electrical systems, and controlled radiation exposure.

Key Responsibilities

• Install Dornier MedTech capital equipment, including urology tables, lithotripsy systems, and standalone X-ray devices, following approved procedures and manufacturer specifications.
• Receive, unpack, inspect, and inventory equipment on arrival, documenting any shipping damage or shortages before installation begins.
• Complete mechanical assembly, electrical connections, system configuration, and functional verification, confirming each system meets acceptance criteria before handoff to the customer or Field Service Engineer.
• Work from site plans, installation drawings, and pre-installation checklists, communicating any site conditions that differ from plan.
• Support multi‑person installations as a crew member and, with experience, lead installations independently.
• Represent Dornier MedTech professionally on site, communicating clearly with biomedical engineering, facilities, and clinical staff on schedule, site readiness, and progress.
• Coordinate with customers and the Installation Manager to resolve site readiness issues and keep installations on schedule.
• Leave every site clean, organized, and ready for clinical use, with the customer informed of what was completed and what comes next.
• Follow all installation procedures and quality system requirements, completing accurate, audit‑ready installation checklists and acceptance documentation.
• Identify and report product, process, or documentation issues observed during installation.
• Submit installation reports, time records, and expense reports promptly and accurately through company systems, and maintain assigned tools and test equipment.
• Follow all company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements, including electrical safety, radiation safety, and lifting and rigging practices, using appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Support Field Service Engineers and other installers as needed, including equipment moves, upgrades, and de‑installations.

What You'll Bring

Required:

• Associate degree in electronics, biomedical equipment technology, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, military training, and hands‑on experience.
• Valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company fleet requirements.
• Ability to travel extensively and to obtain required hospital vendor credentialing, including background check, drug screening, and immunization records.
• Demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude, including the ability to read and work from technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and installation instructions.
• Ability to solve practical problems on site when conditions differ from plan, and to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Ability to work independently, manage time on site, and complete documentation accurately without close supervision.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical work clearly to customers who may not have a technical background.
• Ability to use standard hand tools, power tools, and basic electrical test equipment such as multimeters.
• Basic computer proficiency, including email, mobile applications, and web‑based reporting tools.

Preferred:

• One to three years of experience installing, repairing, or maintaining electromechanical, medical, or X‑ray equipment.
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Prior experience working in hospital or surgical environments.
• Experience with medical device quality system documentation or comparable regulated environments.
