Job summary

Springfield Public Schools seeks a qualified Visual Arts teacher for grades 5–12 in Western Massachusetts. The role requires current licensure and a Bachelor's degree with an appropriate license; a Master's degree is preferred within 5 years.

You will plan lessons aligned to district goals, assess student progress, maintain records, and engage families while collaborating with specialists and paraprofessionals.

Qualifications

• Requires appropriate license (Visual Art) for 5-12
• Bachelor's degree with appropriate license; or
• Master's degree with appropriate content license preferred within 5 years

Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in locations and times designated.
• Plans a program of study that meets individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
• Guides learning toward district curriculum goals and communicates clear objectives for lessons and projects.
• Prepares for classes and shows written evidence of preparation as required by contract.
• Employs varied instructional techniques and media as appropriate to location and students.
• Assesses student progress regularly and communicates with parents as needed.
• Maintains accurate records as required by law and district policy.
• Diagnoses learning challenges and seeks district specialist assistance as required.
• Protects students, equipment, materials and facilities.
• Adheres to district code of conduct and enforces classroom rules fairly.
• Plans and supervises paraprofessional assignments and writes evaluations as required.
• Pursues ongoing professional growth and participates in teacher evaluation process.
• Participates in building and district meetings and school activities.
• Contributes to district decisions on budget, facilities, curriculum and well-being.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
