Qualifications

• Three or more years full time teaching experience.
• Completed or enrolled in an advances preparation program in special education.
• Demonstrates interpersonal skills for problem solving and resource sharing.
• Effective communication with parents and staff and conflict handling.
• Knowledge of due process procedures and implementation.
• Ability to recognize the need for student services beyond the Resource Specialist program.

Responsibilities

• Provides an educational program for students identified by SAT as having exceptional needs and assigned to regular teachers.
• Confers frequently with parents and professional staff on each pupil's progress.
• Responsible for the diagnosis and remediation of students with learning disorders and IEP development.
• Caseload shall not exceed 24 pupils at any given period.
• Provides supervision of an instructional aide.
• Coordinates and chairs all SAT functions (referrals, assessments, placements).
• Identifies students with special needs and develops IEPs for admitted students.
• Supervises at least one full-time resource specialist aide.
• Develops behavioral management strategies and administers assessment tools.
• Provides materials and media for regular instruction as needed.
• Delivers instructions/resources (one-to-one, small group) per IEP and maintains caseload limit.
• Develops weekly lesson plans aligned with District curriculum.
