Job summary

YMCA of Greater Boston is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor at Oak Square YMCA to lead energizing group classes and support members in achieving fitness goals. The role emphasizes safe, inclusive instruction and ongoing wellness knowledge through courses and training.

The position requires a minimum of one year in group exercise, an NCCA-accredited certification, and format-specific credentials if applicable.

Qualifications

• At least one year of experience in Group Exercise setting.
• NCCA accredited certification (ACE, AFFA, NASM, NSCA, ISSA, etc.).
• If teaching a specific format, current certification required (Yoga/Spin/Body Pump/Body Combat).
• Experience in health and wellness programming and group instruction.
• Understanding of internal and external marketing/special events.

Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, safe, and engaging group classes as directed by supervisor.
• Answers questions to support members in health and well-being goals.
• Maintains knowledge of wellness trends via courses and training to provide accurate information.
• Builds authentic relationships with members and connects them with the YMCA.
• Adjusts approach to accommodate participants’ abilities, health, and culture.
• Celebrates participants' achievements and progress.
• Keeps accurate attendance records using MotionVibe.
• Follows YMCA policies and responds to emergencies.
• Resolves member issues professionally in line with YMCA values.
