Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Inspector/Office Engineer to join the Hunt Valley/MD area team. You will support construction engineering and inspection from the project office, coordinating with the Resident Engineer, inspectors, contractors, and SHA staff to ensure accurate documentation and contract compliance.

Responsibilities include daily field inspections, tracking quality, and preparing inspection reports, while assisting with project turnovers and communication to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma plus 4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of education/experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of work.
  • Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices; MVR review may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Set own project deadlines and monitor progress.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new employees.
  • Perform inspection duties to verify conformance to quality, performance, specifications, and codes.
  • Conduct daily field inspections and maintain inspection records.
  • Participate in punch lists, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain project documentation for QA purposes.
  • Communicate inspection findings and status to project management and engineering teams.

Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an Inspector/Office Engineer to join our team and support ongoing construction engineering and inspection efforts in the Hunt Valley/MD area. This role will play a critical part in supporting a construction project from the project office. They work closely with the Resident Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, inspectors, contractors, and SHA staff to ensure project documentation, contract administration, and payment processes are accurate and compliant.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for setting own project deadlines
  • Provides on the job training to new employees
  • Responsible for monitoring conformance to quality, performance, specifications, and/or code requirements by performing inspection duties
  • Performs daily field inspections and maintains inspection records
  • Participates in punch lists, testing, and commissioning activities
  • Tracks quality assurance progress and documents inspection findings
  • Provides input to documentation for area and equipment turnovers
  • Coordinates with contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to address inspection concerns and ensure compliance with project specifications
  • Documents deficiencies, non-conformances, and corrective actions required to meet contract requirements
  • Prepares detailed inspection reports and maintains comprehensive project documentation for quality assurance purposes
  • Communicates inspection findings, recommendations, and project status updates to project management and engineering teams
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma plus 4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education
  • U.S. Citizenship is required, due to the nature of the work
  • Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience preparing monthly pay estimates, tracking quantities, and processing change orders
  • Knowledge of SHA Standard Specifications, Standard Details, and construction manuals
  • Experience reviewing contractor schedules and monitoring project progress
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and document management systems
  • Strong understanding of construction documentation, including daily reports, RFIs, submittals, and material certifications

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $30 to $40.
