Job summary

GE Aerospace in Wilmington, NC, seeks a skilled inspector to perform mechanical and visual inspections on aerospace components. You will set up and use electronic gauging devices, read engineering drawings, and ensure high-quality inspection techniques in a team-driven environment.

You will join a facility with over 600,000 sq ft, 300+ CNC machines, and 500+ staff, contributing to precision manufacturing for aviation engines.

Qualifications

  • Reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints and drawings.
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments.
  • 3+ years in manufacturing set-up and CNC processes or equivalent program training.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and perform surface plate inspections as per instructions.
  • Work to engineering drawings, inspection planning, and standards.
  • Document findings and provide reports/feedback.
  • Participate in daily team meetings and communicate with colleagues.
  • Obtain and maintain Inspector B Certification (training provided).
  • May perform part marking, wash, and dry lube operations.
  • Operate forklifts, cranes, and material handling equipment as needed.
  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs following ergonomic procedures.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Set-up and perform surface plate inspections as detailed in inspection instructions.
  • Work to engineering drawings, sketches, inspection planning, and other inspection and testing standards and specifications.
  • Responsible for documenting findings, making reports, and providing feedback.
  • Active participation in daily team meetings and activities and direct professional communication with team members.
  • Required to obtain and maintain Inspector B Certification. Training is provided for this certification.
  • May be required to complete part marking, wash, and dry lube operations.
  • Forklifts, cranes and material handling equipment are expected to be used instead of manual lifting and carrying.
  • Employee may be required to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50# following proper ergonomic procedures.

Requirements Include

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • This role may encounter high risk or hazardous operations and/or include working shifts beyond a standard workweek. As such, a requirement of the role is to be at least 18 years of age by the time of joining.
  • Must have at least 3 years of manufacturing experience in set-up and operations of any 2 of the following Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machining processes: drilling, milling, grinding, turning, or broaching; OR an Associate’s degree from an accredited machinist training program.
  • At least 1 year of experience reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints and/or production planning.
  • Must have at least 2 years using precision measuring instruments.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Prior Aircraft Engines machining experience.
  • Able to use computers and learn Microsoft Office.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate effectively in English.
  • Experience working in a high-performing team-based environment.

Additional Information

  • Must be able to push, pull or lift parts up to 50 lbs. utilizing proper ergonomic procedures.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
