Job summary

CAI Cox Automotive Corp Svcs., LLC is seeking an Inspector Apprentice to join the Inspections team. You will document vehicle conditions to support processing and sale of cosigned vehicles in lane and online, with emphasis on accuracy and safety.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass an Inspector Certification Exam within 90 days. Overtime may be required.

  • Conduct courtesy inspections (OVE) around vehicles.

Job Overview

Inspector Apprentice – Member of the Inspections team at a Cox Automotive operating location. Primary duties include documenting overall vehicle condition to support processing and sale of client/customer cosigned vehicles in lane and online.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify vehicle information based on work order information; identify damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems by inspecting all customer vehicles at receipt (interior, exterior, odometer reading, trunk area, engine compartment).
  • Prepare and complete all necessary documentation and electronic condition reports (ECR).
  • Set up system for day‑end and perform day‑end procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge of all policies, procedures, and system capabilities to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct OVE courtesy walks around inspections.
  • Maintain working knowledge of body mechanical, frame labor, inspection techniques, and software updates.
  • Demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and participating in safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • May be required to work overtime as business needs dictate.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Generally less than 2 years of experience.
  • Valid driver’s license; safe drivers required.
  • Preferred: Ability to drive standard and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Minimal knowledge of automotive body and mechanical work (0‑1 year).
  • Ability to multitask and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills and experience navigating handheld documentation devices.
  • Must plan to pass Inspector Certification Exam within 90 days.
Mandatory Physical Requirements
  • Frequently required to crouch, bend, and kneel to look at side or underneath a vehicle.
  • Strength to lift a hood or trunk and bend while performing audits.
  • Reach inside or underneath the vehicle; near vision required to find dings and scratches, paint work, hail damage, frame/unibody, other exterior damage, and interior damage.
  • Near vision required to identify exterior or interior colors and to deal with different lighting conditions.
Drug Testing

Applicants must clear a pre‑employment drug test. The role does not presently administer a marijuana test, but the workplace is drug‑free; possession, use, or influence of illegal drugs during work hours, on company property, or in company vehicles is prohibited.

Benefits

Employees receive a minimum of sixteen (16) hours of paid time off (PTO) each month, seven paid holidays annually, and additional PTO for bereavement, voting, jury duty, volunteer, military, and parental leave.
