Job summary

Cox Automotive is seeking an Inspector Apprentice to verify vehicle information and document findings at a Cox location in California. The role involves inspecting interiors, exteriors, odometer readings, and related components against work orders, and completing all required documentation.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, strong communication skills, and a valid driver's license. Overtime may be required, and the work is outdoors in variable conditions.

Responsibilities

• Verify vehicle information based on work orders by inspecting all customer vehicles at receipt.
• Prepare and complete all necessary documentation.

• Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures.
• Write electronic condition reports (ECR).
• Conduct courtesy walk-around inspections (OVE).
• Maintain knowledge of system capabilities and relevant software/web apps.
• Stay updated on body/mechanical and inspection techniques.
• Demonstrate safety and participate in Safety Excellence activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned; overtime may be required.

Compensation

Hourly base pay rate is $16.44 - $24.62/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Job Responsibilities:

• Verify vehicle information based on work order information – identify damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems by inspecting all customer vehicles at time of receipt (i.e., interior, exterior, odometer reading, trunk area, engine compartment), noting any damage or repair to frame/paint, engine noise, AC/heater operation, radio, tire condition, etc.
• Prepare and complete all necessary documentation.
• Set up system for day-end; perform day-end procedures.
• Maintain knowledge to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
• Write electronic condition reports (ECR).
• Conduct OVE courtesy walk around inspections.
• Maintain knowledge of system capabilities, knowledge of needed/job-relevant software packages, and web-based applications.
• Maintain a working knowledge on improvements and changes concerning body mechanical, frame labor, inspection techniques, etc.
• Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such. Actively participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
• May be required to work overtime as business needs dictate.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Generally, less than 2 years of experience.
• Safe driver's needed; valid driver's license required.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

Preferred:

• Strong technical understanding, with good organizational skills needed.
• Ability to multitask, follow directions and take instruction.
• Advanced computer skills.
• Ability to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods of time; ability to bend, stoop, squat or kneel; ability to lift and hold at least 10lbs at waist level for an extended period of-time; ability to lift-up to 30 lbs.

Work Environment:

• Exposure to outdoor weather and inclement conditions.(100% outdoors)
• Moderate noise level.
• May be exposed to fumes and odors.
• May be required to work overtime (more than 40 hours per week) as business needs dictate

Benefits
