Job summary

Hill International is seeking an Inspector to work on-site in Pittsburgh, PA. The role involves inspecting construction stages, interpreting plans, monitoring safety, and preparing reports with photos to ensure compliance with codes and standards.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, 5+ years in transit/rail projects, and strong MS Office/SharePoint skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
  • 5+ years of project experience in transit or rail construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, standards, equipment, quality and safety per state and federal requirements.
  • Strong computing skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Word and SharePoint.
  • Experience using mobile devices, such as iPads, for reporting preferred.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Ability to identify potential problems and propose solutions.
  • Sufficient written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must work on-site in Pittsburgh, PA during night shift hours, Monday-Thursday PM.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects each stage of construction up to completion.
  • Interprets plans, specifications, and codes and verifies work complies with regulations.
  • Monitors construction sites for safety violations.
  • Prepares Non-Conformance Reports when work does not meet standards.
  • Maintains daily activity logs and reports with photographs.
  • Reviews interim progress reports for contractor payments.
  • Monitors contractor testing activities.
  • Prepares reports on labor, material, and equipment on site.
  • Determines conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Conduits quality surveillance of specified activities as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe work environment and promote safety compliance.
  • Provide Safety and Security field services, including site safety reviews.
  • Coordinate preparation of inspection survey reports, cost estimates, and maintenance records.
  • Ensure timely submittals of these reports and records.
  • Arrange, coordinate and oversee inspections (electrical, landscaping, soil testing, concrete, asphalt mixes, reinforcing steel).
  • Coordinate test laboratory activities with QA teams and contractor's QC team.

  • Bachelors in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
