Job summary

Hill International Inc in Houston, Texas seeks an Architectural Inspector to conduct daily observations of construction work for compliance with drawings, specs, and submittals. The role includes issuing Observation Reports, tracking NCRs, and maintaining on-site documentation.

Expect attendance at pre-construction and regular meetings, with flexible hours for critical installations. Ideal candidates will have a background in architectural/structural systems and knowledge of applicable codes.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of project/construction management experience or 10 years in related trade, with at least 1 year supervisory experience.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, construction sciences, or other construction-related field.
• ICC certification is suggested by discipline (e.g., plumbing, electrical).
• Knowledge of architectural details, partitions, finishes and doors.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily observations of construction to ensure compliance with drawings, specs, RFIs, Change Orders and submittals.
• Issue Observation Reports with references to drawings/spec sections and manage non-conformities.
• Attend early, late, or after-hours installations as owner representative.
• Provide QC and inspection expertise for architectural and structural systems.
• Track and follow up on Non-Compliance Reports on Project Work Space or Unifier.
• Prepare inspection reports on PWS and Unifier.
• Maintain and organize on-site project documentation (inspection tests, RFIs, ASIs, change docs).
• Attend pre-construction meetings and regular onsite construction meetings.
• Attend pre-outage planning meetings.
• Monitor as-builts and punch lists and verify deficiency closure on PWS.
• Stay current in applicable codes/regulations (IBC, NFPA 101, TDLR, OSHA, ADA, ASHRAE 90.1, SWPPP).
• Interface with Sr Inspector and coordinate with stakeholders to resolve conflicts.

Job description

Hill International is seeking an Architectural Inspector in Houston, Texas

• Conduct daily observations of construction work for compliance with approved contract drawings, specifications, Requests for Information (RFIs), Change Orders, and approved submittals and shop drawings.


• Issue Observation Reports noting conditions of non-compliance, with proper references to detailed drawings and specifications sections. Project portfolio: 1 project, average value $10M-$50M.


• Attend early morning, evening, or after-hours installations (e.g., concrete pours) requiring owner representation; flexible hours are required for construction observations.


• Provide quality control and inspection expertise in the area of architectural and structural systems.


• Track and follow up on Non-Compliance Reports (NCRs) on Project Work Space (PWS) or Unifier.


• Prepare reports of inspections on PWS and Unifier.


• Maintain and organize on-site project documentation, including inspection and test reports, RFIs, Architect's Supplemental Instructions (ASIs), and project change control documents on PWS or Unifier.


• Attend pre-construction meetings and regular onsite construction meetings.


• Attend pre-outage planning meetings.


• Monitor as-builts and punch lists. Review punch lists for above ceiling, open wall, and Substantial Completion inspections, and revisit to confirm completion of deficiencies on PWS.


• Stay current in codes and regulations applicable to design and construction, including International Building Codes, NFPA 101, TDLR, OSHA, ADA, ASHRAE 90.1, SWPPP, and any special requirements of the building type (e.g., healthcare, research labs, special campus project types, etc.).


• Interface with MDA Sr Inspector and provide support to users, campus operations, architects, engineers, contractors, utilities, and regulatory agencies to assist with resolution of conflicts as directed.

• Minimum of 3years of project management and construction management experience or 10 years of experience in the related construction trade, including one year of supervisory experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one-to-one basis.


• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, construction sciences, or other construction-related field.


• ICC Certified (by discipline e.g., plumber, electrical) is suggested.


• Knowledge of architectural details, partition ratings, finishes, and doors.
