- Position Title: Inspector
Location: Brooklyn and Manhattan, NY with travel to project sites. Job Type: Full-Time Work Hours: Monday through Friday (nighttime and weekend work)
Position Overview
The Construction Inspector is responsible for providing field inspection and documentation for emergency water main and sewer repair projects in NYC. Verifies that emergency work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, approved construction practices, utility standards, and applicable regulations.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily on-site inspections of construction activities to ensure adherence to the project schedule, plans, specifications, and safety standards.
- Prepare and maintain daily construction inspection reports documenting work performed, contractor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified, observed issues, and contractor activities.
- Identify unsafe conditions, code violations, and site hazards; ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Document and report field issues or deviations from plans and communicate inspection findings to the Resident Engineer.
- Assist the Resident Engineer with monitoring project progress, identifying potential schedule impacts, documenting delays, and providing timely field information necessary to support project management and decision-making.
- Perform additional construction inspection, documentation, coordination, and project-related duties as assigned by the Resident Engineer.
QualificationsRequired Skills and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil preferred) from an accredited college OR NICET Highway Construction Inspection Certification Level II.
- Minimum of five years of NYC experience in construction inspection or management of infrastructure projects involving sanitary and storm sewers and water mains. (NYCDEP Experience preferred)
- Familiarity with NYCDOT, NYSDOT, NYCDEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and maintain accurate records and documentation.
