Job summary

CES Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Construction Inspector to provide field inspection and documentation for emergency water main and sewer repair projects in NYC. You will verify that work is performed safely, efficiently, and per project requirements, standards, and regulations.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil preferred) or NICET Level II, with at least five years NYC experience. Travel to project sites across NYC is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil preferred) or NICET Level II certification.
  • Minimum 5 years NYC experience in construction inspection or management of water/sewer projects.
  • Familiarity with NYCDOT/NYSDOT/NYCDEP specs, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to read drawings and maintain records.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily on-site inspections to ensure adherence to schedule, plans, specs, and safety.
  • Prepare and maintain daily inspection reports detailing work, labor, equipment, quantities, and issues.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and site hazards; ensure corrective actions.
  • Document and report field issues; communicate findings to the Resident Engineer.
  • Assist the Resident Engineer in monitoring progress and identifying schedule impacts.
  • Perform additional inspection and coordination duties as assigned.

Location: Brooklyn and Manhattan, NY with travel to project sites. Job Type: Full-Time Work Hours: Monday through Friday (nighttime and weekend work)

Position Overview

The Construction Inspector is responsible for providing field inspection and documentation for emergency water main and sewer repair projects in NYC. Verifies that emergency work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, approved construction practices, utility standards, and applicable regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily on-site inspections of construction activities to ensure adherence to the project schedule, plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Prepare and maintain daily construction inspection reports documenting work performed, contractor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified, observed issues, and contractor activities.
  • Identify unsafe conditions, code violations, and site hazards; ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Document and report field issues or deviations from plans and communicate inspection findings to the Resident Engineer.
  • Assist the Resident Engineer with monitoring project progress, identifying potential schedule impacts, documenting delays, and providing timely field information necessary to support project management and decision-making.
  • Perform additional construction inspection, documentation, coordination, and project-related duties as assigned by the Resident Engineer.
QualificationsRequired Skills and Experience:
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil preferred) from an accredited college OR NICET Highway Construction Inspection Certification Level II.
  • Minimum of five years of NYC experience in construction inspection or management of infrastructure projects involving sanitary and storm sewers and water mains. (NYCDEP Experience preferred)
  • Familiarity with NYCDOT, NYSDOT, NYCDEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and maintain accurate records and documentation.
