Position Summary
The ISP Technician I is an extension of the various Engineering groups in the field. The ISP Technician should be familiar with tools, equipment, standards, and deciphering technical documentation, to follow instructions to complete installations and assist with troubleshooting. The ISP Technician will have a wide variety of skills and knowledge but not necessarily mastery of all.

Primary Responsibilities
- Install and maintain various types of telecommunications equipment such as Cyan, Juniper, Accedian, Overture, Ciena, Adtran OptiX/MX2800 series/908 series/TA series, Cisco ONS, various Cisco routers and switches, etc.
- Regular use of power tools and equipment related to installation and maintenance of network equipment.
- Work with AC and DC power in the capacity of installing equipment, as well as battery strings and rectifier units.
- Troubleshoot equipment including OTDR/Light Meter, TBERD, Ethernet Test Set, Toner, etc.
- IP networking
- Configure CPE equipment with use of templates.
- Navigation of a CLI and menu tree
- Prompt communication and updating of orders, tickets, documentation, etc.
- Work with other departments (such as NOC, Transport Engineering, Core, Service Delivery, etc.) to ensure customer support from start to finish and resolve issues/concerns promptly. Escalate tickets appropriately if needed.
- Support Level I and II Technicians to complete tasks minimizing network outages and maximizing customer uptime (i.e., 99.999 mentality).
- Support the development and updating of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and support efficiency efforts.
- Document and maintain detailed records of customer and equipment issues (including configuration and troubleshooting, resolution, etc.).
- Perform network site audits and recommend network changes and improvements.
- Communicate inventory and material needs to the Manager, Inside Plant, for review and ordering, and support ordering as needed.
- Complete overnight maintenance activities and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, including some holidays.
Requirements
- Ability to pass LEIN background checks.
- Valid Driver’s license and ability to drive a fleet vehicle.
- 1+ years of hands-on experience in a related field.
- Ability to read and follow technical documents and update documentation per standards.
- Safety-first mindset respecting safe work standards (PPE, process, procedures).
- Ability to scope and specify technical solutions to meet requirements.
- Willingness to work overtime and on-call 24/7, including some holidays.
- Occasional overnight travel required.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of relevant experience, including installing/troubleshooting fiber optic and Ethernet transport hardware.
- Experience working with customers and resolving issues effectively.
- Experience with various telecommunications equipment and oversight.
- Experience installing and troubleshooting services at wireless towers.
- Basic ISP networking knowledge and cabling skills.
- Experience with DWDM, CWDM, ATM, Ethernet architectures.
- Salesforce experience.
- Experience supporting fiber optic networks in data centers or central offices.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in all climates.
- Ability to lift 60 lbs.
