Job summary

Brightwell Behavioral Health, an acute inpatient psychiatric hospital in East Lansing, Michigan, seeks a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) to provide Activity Therapy services, including assessment, treatment planning, and discharge leisure planning. Services follow current standards of practice.

The CTRS will work with an interdisciplinary team to promote positive changes in patients’ cognitive, social, emotional, and physical functioning, educate coping skills, and support

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited program
• NCTRC certification
• Experience in psychiatric setting (preferred)
• Basic computer skills
• English communication skills (spoken and written); additional languages preferred)

Responsibilities

• Establishes treatment goals and determines appropriate therapeutic recreation modality
• Evaluates patient progress and records daily progress notes
• Develops and applies clinical skills by assessing patient functioning
• Attends treatment team conferences to assist with plans and summaries
• Records behavior and interventions on the Master Treatment Plan and discharge summaries
• Implements individual treatment plans with interdisciplinary team
• Develops new treatment programs based on changes in mental health field
• Instructs patients on equipment use during therapy
• Adheres to safety protocols and completes safety checklists
• Keeps current with trends in therapeutic recreation
• Provides staff training as needed
• Observes safety cues and applies de-escalation techniques when necessary
