Job summary

Infor is seeking a Psychiatric Technician to support the inpatient psychiatric unit under the supervision of a registered nurse, performing selected patient care activities and participating in the multidisciplinary treatment plan.

This weekend rotation (0700–1930) is non-exempt; for hire, candidates must obtain BLS within 3 months, Handle with Care and restraints certifications within two months, and demonstrate effective communication and documentation.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age
• Six months’ experience with mental health patients or two years' continued education toward an associate degree
• BLS certification within three months of hire
• Handle with Care Basic Certification within two months and annual re-certification
• Hard cuff and Soft Limb Restraints Certification within two months and annual re-certification

Responsibilities

• Assists in creating an environment that is clean, neat, and conducive to patient comfort.
• Participates in the identification, stabilization, and resolution of potential crisis; must be able to identify when assistance is needed.
• Assists with the orientation of patients and families to the unit.
• Assists with planning and participates in therapeutic activities with patients.
• Performs selected treatments and takes patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration as directed by registered nurse.
• Charts factually and concisely and takes responsibility for making entries into record in correct sequence and according to Hospital policy and procedure.
• Assists patients in doing personal laundry.
• Accompanies patients to other departments when necessary.
• Assists in placing patient in seclusion and restraints, as indicated.
• Assists in patient and room searches.
• Reports pertinent information and observations to other treatment personnel.
• Assists with groups under the supervision of the RN as needed.
