Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking Psychiatric Nursing Assistants to support the Nursing team in patient care under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses on the Medicine Psychiatric Inpatient Unit (3BT).

The 15-bed unit serves adults with acute physical illnesses alongside acute psychiatric disorders. This 36-hour-per-week night-shift role is based in Boyd Tower, Iowa City, with rotating holidays and every-other-weekend scheduling.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.
• Experience defusing volatile situations (desirable).
• Strong written communication skills with customer service experience (desirable).
• Previous patient care experience in a Mental Health setting (highly desired).

Responsibilities

• Assist Nursing team in patient care under RN supervision.
• Monitor and support patients on the Psychiatric Inpatient Unit (3BT).
• Rotate holidays and weekends as scheduled; night shift.
• Complete required documentation and communications with care team.
