Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is hiring a Staff Nurse for the Geriatric Psychiatry unit (2 JPE) in Iowa City. This 28–32 hour per week, part-time role reports to the Nurse Manager and requires nursing licensure in Iowa, strong communication, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.

The position involves direct patient care in a 14-bed inpatient unit focusing on geriatric and adult psychiatric services, with duties spanning assessment, care planning, and discharge

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Current license to practice nursing in Iowa by date of hire.
• General computer skills required.
• Nursing degree or diploma as listed in education requirements.

Responsibilities

• Applies nursing theory to assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses.
• Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
• Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
• Develops patient care plans considering patient condition and socioeconomic factors.
• Implements care plans and documents interventions and patient/family response.
• Collaborates with patients and families within the multidisciplinary care plan.
• Coordinates transfer and discharge planning.
• Adheres to department policies and universal precautions to maintain a safe environment.
