Job description

Assists in most aspects of drug distribution that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. An Operations Pharmacy Technician II can perform some aspects of drug distribution and preparation, including assisting in training Operations Pharmacy Technician I. Technicians operate under standard procedures and guidelines supervised by a pharmacist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. One of the following:

• Nationally certified (PTCB or EXCPT) AND registered with the state Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician upon hire (except PA).
• Two years of pharmacy technician or healthcare experience AND:
• Be certified within 15 months of hire.
• Register with the state Board of Pharmacy within 15 months of hire (except PA).
• Register as a Pharmacy Technician trainee upon hire (except PA).

If employed in Maryland, national certifications are waived.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Associate’s degree, post-high school science education, or pharmacy technician training program graduate.
2. Certified by PTCB or EXCPT upon hire.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for preparing unit-dose medications, delivering medications, ordering and delivering drug supplies, reading prescriptions, preparing medications, and maintaining records. Other duties include inventory management, labeling, calculations, and assisting in technician training. Certain tasks are restricted to pharmacists by law.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to walk, stand, sit, lift up to 30 pounds, push 50 pounds, and have dexterity for handling medications.
