Job summary

MercyOne Dubuque seeks an Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Trainee to assist in pharmaceutical care for inpatients and outpatients under pharmacist supervision. You'll handle dispensing, IV prep, and patient charge processing in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Must be 17.5 years of age or older.
• Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of employment.
• Pass the test for and maintain national technician certification within 1 year.
• Mandatory Reporter Training within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists and nurses with pharmacy-related issues and implement physician orders.
• Perform dispensing under supervision of a pharmacist.
• Prepare IV admixtures and other sterile preparations per policy.
• Deliver medications to nursing units as needed.
• Process Unit Based Cabinet Refills and resupply medications to nursing units.
• Answer and route incoming calls to the department.
• Assist with department inventory procedures and processes.
• Process patient medication charges and credits in the hospital information system.

Education

17.5 years of age or older

Iowa Board of Pharmacy registration within 30 days

National technician certification within 1 year

Mandatory Reporter Training within 6 months

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire an Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Trainee.

As an Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Trainee at MercyOne, you will be Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the inpatient pharmacy technician trainee assists in the provision of pharmaceutical care to inpatients and outpatients ranging in age from premature newborns to geriatrics. The inpatient pharmacy technician trainee is involved in the provision of educational and employee services to patients, guests, hospital and medical staff of MercyOne Medical Center. Schedule: FT Nights; 10/hour shifts; 7on/7off

General Requirements

• Works with and assists pharmacists and nurses with pharmacy related issues for patients and facilitates the implementation of physician orders.
• Performs dispensing functions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
• Prepares IV admixtures as well as any other sterile preparation encountered in pharmacy according to departmental policies.
• Makes regular deliveries of medications to nursing units.
• Processes Unit Based Cabinet Refill Reports and promptly delivers / resupplies medications to the nursing units.
• Answers and processes incoming phone calls to the department.
• Assists with department inventory procedures and processes.
• Processes patient medication charges and credits accurately into pharmacy and / or hospital information system.

Education

• Must be 17.5 years of age or older.
• Typing, clerical and science background desirable.
• Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of employment.
• Pass the test for and maintain national technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 1 year of employment. If unable to pass the test within 1 year of employment, the employee will need to be terminated from the pharmacy technician trainee position.
• Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
