Job summary

MercyOne Dubuque is seeking an Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Trainee to join the team. Under a pharmacist’s supervision, you will assist in pharmaceutical care for inpatients and outpatients, helping with education and staff support within MercyOne Medical Center.

The position involves dispensing functions, IV preparation, medication deliveries, inventory tasks, and collaboration with nursing staff. Evening hours and a strong focus on patient safety are essential.

Qualifications

• Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of employment.
• Must pass and maintain national pharmacy technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 1 year.
• Mandatory Reporter Training for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
• Must be at least 17.5 years old at start of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists and nurses with pharmacy-related issues and execute physician orders.
• Dispense medications under pharmacist supervision.
• Prepare IV admixtures and other sterile preparations.
• Deliver medications to nursing units and resupply as needed.
• Process unit-based cabinet refill reports and medication charges in the system.

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire an Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Trainee.

As an Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Trainee at MercyOne, you will be Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the inpatient pharmacy technician trainee assists in the provision of pharmaceutical care to inpatients and outpatients ranging in age from premature newborns to geriatrics. The inpatient pharmacy technician trainee is involved in the provision of educational and employee services to patients, guests, hospital and medical staff of MercyOne Medical Center.

Schedule

• FT Nights; 10/hour shifts; 7on/7off

General Requirements

• Works with and assists pharmacists and nurses with pharmacy related issues for patients and facilitates the implementation of physician orders.
• Performs dispensing functions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
• Prepares IV admixtures as well as any other sterile preparation encountered in pharmacy according to departmental policies.
• Makes regular deliveries of medications to nursing units.
• Processes Unit Based Cabinet Refill Reports and promptly delivers / resupplies medications to the nursing units.
• Answers and processes incoming phone calls to the department.
• Assists with department inventory procedures and processes.
• Processes patient medication charges and credits accurately into pharmacy and / or hospital information system.

Education

• Must be 17.5 years of age or older.
• Typing, clerical and science background desirable.
• Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 30 days of employment.
• Pass the test for and maintain national technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 1 year of employment. If unable to pass the test within 1 year of employment, the employee will need to be terminated from the pharmacy technician trainee position.
• Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
