Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician to ensure safe, accurate preparation and distribution of medications in the inpatient pharmacy. You will work under a licensed pharmacist, fill orders, maintain inventory, and deliver medications across patient care areas.

You will assist with medication histories, unit doses, and reporting, while adhering to safety and QA standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Active registration with the District of Columbia Board of Pharmacy.
• Completion of a pharmacy technician training program or national certification.
• One year of related pharmacy experience preferred.
• Proficiency with pharmacy computerized systems and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to perform mathematical operations for inventory and recordkeeping.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and carry supplies as needed.
• Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and dispense medication orders for an assigned inpatient population, based on physician orders and patient profiles.
• Fill orders for unit doses, IV admixtures, and general stock.
• Assist pharmacists in collecting patient medication history and resolving discrepancies.
• Package and label medications for pharmacist inspection and approval.
• Deliver and pick up pharmacy documents and medications across departments.
• Track and maintain stock levels and replenish floor stock as needed.
• Produce reports from pharmacy databases (controlled substances, inspections, inventory, billing).
• Support drug recalls and pharmacy area inspections.
• Observe policies, quality assurance, safety, and infection control standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Pharmacy technician training program

National Pharmacy Technician certification

Active registration with the District of Columbia Board of Pharmacy

1 year of related pharmacy experience (preferred)
