Inpatient Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator
Shift: Day
Employment Status: Full‑Time (.75 or greater)
Hours per Pay Period: 80 hours every two weeks (Non‑Exempt)
Starting Wage: DOE $63.47 – 79.34
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement short and long‑range strategies in collaboration with pharmacy, medical staff, administration, and healthcare providers; lead and revise programs that enhance departmental and organizational services.
- Lead the growth and strategic development of ambulatory clinical pharmacy services, coordinating with providers and clinic leadership to ensure continuity and synergy in pursuit of pharmacy and organizational goals.
- Coordinate and develop collaborative relationships with Bills Clinic departments.
- Lead ambulatory clinical pharmacy services and interdisciplinary team meetings to promote coordination of services.
- Gather, analyze, and trend clinical, financial, and statistical data to evaluate and improve the quality of care, safety, adverse outcomes, cost‑effective therapies, and service improvements; develop and present credible reports to committees regarding patient outcomes and financial and quality impacts.
- Evaluate financial opportunities for ambulatory clinical pharmacy services.
- Review patient outcome trends for ambulatory pharmacy development and service expansion opportunities.
- Quantify ambulatory pharmacy services impact in outcome measures.
- Apply process improvement principles to assess and improve departmental quality; identify issues related to personnel, workflow, safety, medication errors, and collaborate with the manager to resolve them.
- Formulate recommendations for cost‑effective therapeutic alternatives to patients.
- Facilitate development and implementation of treatment guidelines, collaborative practice agreements, and workflows to optimize patient outcomes.
- Participate in clinical and quality committees.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends in healthcare and pharmaceutical therapies; read and evaluate literature; respond to inquiries and resolve problems using appropriate information resources.
- Collaborate with the Pharmacy Residency Program Director and Pharmacy Educator to develop and promote an educational environment within ambulatory clinical pharmacy services.
- Coordinate all education within ambulatory clinical pharmacy services and inter‑departmental clinical needs.
- Actively participate in organizations that promote ambulatory care pharmacy services.
- Lead, recruit, develop, mentor, and retain a talented team; recommend, implement, and evaluate plans and systems that ensure sufficient qualified staff and adherence to HR policies.
- Develop and implement orientation and educational programs for ambulatory clinical staff and affiliated providers.
- Maintain all required employee information in departmental files, conduct periodic and annual employee performance evaluations, process payroll, and complete staffing schedules.
- Demonstrate and encourage open communication and teamwork; build a shared commitment to the clinic’s goals and quality outcomes; provide consultation for related concerns and act as a customer advocate with sensitivity to ethical and legal matters.
- Facilitate clinical consultation and clarification to medical staff and practitioners.
- Contribute to the advancement of the profession through presentations at local, state, and national meetings.
- Utilize healthcare technology and information management systems to support quality of care, financial needs, and efficient resource use; advise on the design and maintenance of pharmacy information systems and databases for measuring clinical outcomes, safety, and productivity metrics.
- Collaborate with payors to identify opportunities for improving patient outcomes; evaluate and use tools to demonstrate clinical, safety, and financial outcomes.
- Staff and/or round regularly with staff in ambulatory pharmacy clinical areas; perform duties of an ambulatory clinical pharmacist as needed; act as a drug information resource.
- Work with teams to meet specialty pharmacy accreditation standards; facilitate clinical oversight subcommittees, quality improvement projects, and therapy management; serve as senior clinical staff member and provide oversight and guidance for clinical operations of pharmacy.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Minimum four‑year bachelor’s degree in pharmacy.
Experience
- Residency training or experience.
- PGY2 in ambulatory care OR
- PGY2 in pharmacy administration with at least one year of experience, with 50% of time spent in direct patient care/clinical ambulatory care settings.
- PGY1 with focus in clinical ambulatory care setting plus at least two years of additional experience, with 50% of time spent in direct patient care/clinical ambulatory care settings.
- PGY1 in a non‑ambulatory care setting plus at least three years of additional experience, with 50% of time spent in direct patient care/clinical ambulatory care settings.
- Five years of experience in pharmacy administration and/or ambulatory care pharmacy, with at least one year involving 50% direct patient care in a clinical ambulatory care setting.
Requirements Upon Hire
- Previous leadership experience or experience leading teams in facility‑wide projects.
Certifications and Licenses
- Current Montana driver’s license and the ability to be insured to operate Clinic vehicles.
- Obtain Montana Pharmacist License prior to start date.
- Obtain Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP) certification within one year of hire.
- Obtain Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP) certification within 18 months of hire.
- Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP) upon hire.
- Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP) upon hire.
