Job summary

UC San Diego Health seeks a registered nurse for Jacobs Medical Center 5FG, an Oncology/Palliative Care Progressive Care Unit. The team provides chemotherapy and biotherapy and partners with a multidisciplinary group to ensure patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
• RN License issued by the State of California.
• BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get UCSD ART within six (6) months of hire date.
• Chemotherapy Certification at time of hire or commitment to initiate the certification process within 6 months of hire date and to achieve certification within one (1) year of hire date.
• Minimum two (2) years recent experience in inpatient oncology (within the last 2 years).
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions.
• Able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
• Demonstrates critical thinking and clinical skills to identify and implement nursing interventions and evaluate results.
• Excellent communication with staff, physicians, patients and external constituents.

Responsibilities

• Provide autonomous nursing care aligned with ANA standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive oncology care including chemotherapy/biotherapy.
• Support palliative care initiatives and holistic patient well-being.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing interventions; monitor patient responses.
