Job summary

Seaside Health System seeks PRN Mental Health Technicians for day shift in our Baton Rouge Inpatient Hospital. The role supports RN/LPN, assists with ADLs, and helps deliver compassionate psychiatric care while maintaining safety and confidentiality.

Candidates should have a high school diploma; psychiatric experience is preferred but not required. CPI/CPR certifications and TB checks must be kept current. Travel is not required, and a collaborative team environment is offered.

Qualifications

• Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
• Work experience: Experience with psychiatric patients preferred but not required.
• Must maintain CPI and CPR certifications, and TB checks.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and supervision in a psychiatric setting.
• Monitor patient behavior, safety, and well-being; report changes to nursing staff.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) including hygiene, grooming, and meals.
• Facilitate and support therapeutic groups and patient engagement.
• Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for patients.
• Perform routine safety checks and assist with crisis intervention as needed.
• Document patient observations and care activities accurately and timely.
• Assist with admissions, discharges, and patient orientation to the unit.
• Ensure compliance with policies, patient rights, and HIPAA standards.
• Use de-escalation techniques and follow protocols for managing aggression.
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and other team members to provide quality care.
• Transport patients within the facility as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient care areas.
• Attend trainings and maintain certifications (e.g., CPI, CPR).
• Perform other duties as assigned
