Job summary

Seaside Health System in Baton Rouge is seeking a Mental Health Technician to support registered nurses in delivering direct and indirect patient care to psychiatric patients. You will assist with care provision, monitor patients, and document observations for the care team.

The role requires strong communication, respect for patient confidentiality, and the ability to participate in group therapy sessions and daily living activities as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Prefer a minimum 1-year recent experience on a medical surgical, skilled nursing, or psychiatric unit.
• Participation in continuing education to enhance job related skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect patient care alongside RN/LPN.
• Monitor patients and maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu.
• Complete daily observation sheets and report findings to the nurse.
• Perform clerical duties supporting unit activities and admissions.
• Record vital signs, nutrition intake, and patient outputs.
• Assist with activities of daily living and hygiene as needed.
• Assist with discharge of patients and organization of belongings.
• Facilitate group sessions and apply therapeutic interventions as required.
• Report abuse or neglect to a supervisor immediately.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to laws and policies.
